The Guardian Triple Crown Challenge is inspired by the “Triple Crown”, which is comprised of three historic races for three-year-old Thoroughbred horses. Just to make it in the field of contenders is a great achievement – a testament to the focus and determination of these great equine athletes. At Guardian Healthcare, we consider healthy living a great achievement and we hope our Triple Crown Challenge motivates you to get active with some friendly, fun and healthy competition! The Guardian Triple Crown Challenge includes the following:
The Guardian Stakes
We start the season in early April through mid-June with this competition, which basically encourages exercise in all shapes and forms, from playing golf to riding bikes, with points awarded for either time spent or mileage for the events. It encourages both indoor exercise and outdoor activities. Weekly progress is tracked in the individual offices with a chart designed as a race track with each participant having a horse that is moved around the track based upon his or her previous week’s activities. All participants receive Guardian Stakes t-shirts as well as cash prizes for winners. The program is known for creating healthy competition among the participants in the offices.
The Biggest Loser
Patterned after the famous TV series, this program is designed to encourage our associates to seek and maintain normal body weight and fight obesity by combining healthy eating habits and exercise. Proper diet and nutrition is one of the highlights of the Triple Crown and is a key component in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally. Everyone seeks to have a higher sense of self-esteem and this program can help us reach that goal. An emphasis is placed on long-term maintenance of weight loss, and successful participants are recognized and awarded prizes.
Step It Up/Take A Hike
This program is conducted concurrently with the “Biggest Loser” program. It begins in mid-July and ends in mid-November. The goal is to create awareness about walking. Walking is one of the easiest forms of exercise and many studies indicate that it’s also one of the healthiest and most practical forms of exercise. By simply incorporating additional steps into our daily routine, we can experience substantial health benefits. The participants’ daily steps are recorded with a pedometer and employees are rewarded for reaching certain milestones. Last year the winners exceeded ONE MILLION STEPS during the competition – that’s quite an achievement!
Please join us as we begin the second and third leg of the challenge. We’re confident you’ll have fun playing for bragging rights and prizes, while reaping the benefits of maintaining an active and healthy life.
